Topic: COOL BUGS

This is about insects, i like them more than computer bugs.

I like the Red Skimmer Dragonfly. Spiders are always fun but they aren't insects. Walking sticks are cool. The Praying Mantis. I like Paper Wasps too. What kind of bugs do you folks like?

Re: COOL BUGS

A lot of people think daddy longlegs are "the most poisonous spider, but they can't bite us".

You've heard that right?

Yeah, well, it's not true.

6

Re: COOL BUGS

daddy long legs isn't even a spider.

Re: COOL BUGS

Half true. There are two creatures we call "Daddy long legs". One is a spider. One is not. Depends on where you live, as to which ones you are familiar with.

8

Re: COOL BUGS

Here's something interesting about daddy long legs spiders you may not know:  They have one of the highest mutation rates of any creature on the planet.  How do I know this?  Here's the story.....

For the last 14 months, I've been working as a research aid at Argonne labs.  Appearantly, many years ago a pair of mutated daddy long legs was brought to the lab, disected, and studied.  One weighed in at 4 lbs and the other was 2.5 lbs.  And before you think that it's just an urban legend, I know it's true.  They're sitting in a vacume sealed case on a wall DIRECTLY in front of my desk.  That's right, I have two giant, dead, gutted mutant spiders about 12 feet from where I eat my lunch!

9

Re: COOL BUGS

....4lbs? Sorry, not a chance.
Hell, 2.5? No way. Not even close to possible.

Heres what i know:

The Heaviest spider ever recorded was a bird-eating spider.
It peaked at 4.3 ounces.
It's leg span was 10.5 inches...

10

Re: COOL BUGS

Skeptic much?  Seriously, man.  It's in the research library, where I do my work.  I have to throw my coat over it before I can eat!  Oh, and if your getting your info on spiders from the national library (where most people find thier pointless facts) it doesn't include mutations.

11

Re: COOL BUGS

Skeptic? Hardly.

It is not possible. That would have been a scientific discovery EVERYONE would have heard of.

Your spider beats the previous record by what? about 16 times? It's leg span would have to fill a small room?

Why am i debating this?

12

Re: COOL BUGS

It was a discovery EVERYONE heard about.  It was found in Springfield, IL in 1968.  In fact, many environmentalists belived that it was caused by the Nuclear plant near to where it was found.  That comes straight from "Argonne News," the labs first attempt at a semi-annual newsletter, November 1968.  So, HAH!
(If they'd let me take a camera to work, I'd take and post a picture for you.)

13

Re: COOL BUGS

Well, i'm sorry. But i will never believe that.

I would believe it only if i saw it with my own eyes, touched it, and was told by a known scientist that it was real.

Nuclear power plant? So its a Godzilla story?

I swear to god you are just trying to make me look like a fool.

Listen- no point debating this. Because even if it was real, you would have to think of me as a complete idiot for saying i believed you.

14

Re: COOL BUGS

Okay, okay.  Don't believe me.  If you're still interested though, go to your local library and ask them to find you a copy of the afore-mentioned newsletter and read about it for yourself.  Maybe it'll change your mind, maybe it won't.
Now, I never said that it was caused by the Plant.  I said that's what some environmentalists at the time blamed it on.  I only mentioned this because you're an environmentally-conscious individual and I hoped it might jog some memory of something you read in the past.  Oh well.
And, finally, I am not trying to make you look like a fool.  In fact, you're the only person I've met here that I not only respect, but enjoy conversing with.  Please, do not misinterpret my intentions.  I'd hate to have you think otherwise.  (oh, and while i'm on the subject, I suspect that my respect for you comes from the fact that we both enjoy a good debate!)

15

Re: COOL BUGS

Haha, well i hear that.

I gues si didn't think you meant me to look like a fool. But, i thought you might have been playing a joke on me? Who knows. Doesn't matter.

I have respect for you too. Only a little. Kidding.

Tropical Cockroach!
http://www.insects.org/entophiles/blattaria/blat_m001.jpeg
The tropical cockroach kicks ass

Some info i copied off a webpage (cos it said exactly what i was going to say in a more detailed way)-
Not all roaches are created equal. This tropical species with neon colored jelly bean cerci was attracted to fish bait. Roaches have endured a notorious reputation although only few species have adapted to share our dwellings and exploit or food reserves. Other roaches are important scavengers. Most people's fear of insect comes from their proliferation, monstrous appearance, and seeming indifference and autonomy towards humans.

Re: COOL BUGS

I hate bugs they freak me out. Especially spiders... EEK!

Re: COOL BUGS

Roach, did these sorts of things inspire your name perhaps?
_________________________________________________

I like insects. I like most living creatures, therefore i do not kill them. The only thing i ever kill are things that try to harm me, or things i care about. I.E. mosquitos, slugs etc. etc. Everything else lives! I will go out of my way to save any little thing i find in my house. Maybe it is this sort of mentality that makes me a liberal. God, i'm such a jerk. . .

Re: COOL BUGS

It doesn't really matter if it is 'living creature just like us'. It is inferior and if I have the power to kill it I will do so... I don't see why not since it isn't illegal =]

You thing slaughterer!!!!!

You are inferior to me, shall i kill you?

Just kidding.  smile

Re: COOL BUGS

Im honestly not sure what inspired my name, i wanted it to be a random word and i was listening to Papa Roach at the time i made Roachsta so i somehow got it from that.

My name on this board was just another random version of Roachsta

I never kill 'bugs' either mold, i once killed a large spider, it was on my face when i woke up. Shouldn't have but still

I sometimes used to turn myself into a cockroach and murder anybody in humanoid form i'd eventually get an army of roaches in town but never when original Anom was on, he'd shoot me with his m16 if i tried to do it to him sad ah the good old days when i was powerful and you were all so weak!  wink

Good point on the inferior thing XTTZ  roll , better point about him being inferior to you Mold. smile
