Why do people obsess over anime? I'm talking about the art. Not the show plots or whatever.
The only other kind of art people get this into, is art scholars over museum quality masterpieces.
I don't get it, to be frank. I don't think the drawings themselves take much talent to draw at all.
Someone explain.

I'll ask my 16 year old daughter to post about it here. She's an Anime Aficionado and draws as good as any of those animators. She has an awesome collection of art - not all anime neither.
I'll see if she'll post this weekend sometime...
Silly question, but aren't all of those avatars from anime? And if so, you are a lousy stinking hypocrite mold! 
From what I can tell, anime seems to be geared towards a younger audience. Also the fact that it is translated from Japanese (or whatever) into English seems to play a huge role in its ultimate stupidity. The humor isn't really too humorous either...but I'd have to say I can not draw anywhere near as good as those artists. From an artistic standpoint I prefer more realistic pieces, but I can tell that it takes great talent to draw those cartoons. As far as plot and such on the shows...mm...not so much.
I assume that you don't like anime because it has very little plot (from what I've seen atleast, sorry if I'm wrong) and that its humor is lacking majorly. That's all I can think of.
Well. . . all you can select is anime avatars. Not like at my board, where you could have any avatar you wanted. =P /sigh hopefuly it'll be up again soon.
Ok I'll tell you why I like anime. Reason 1: Most american cartoons suck have no plot and can't entertain for 30 minutes let alone an hour and a half. Reason 2: The creation of an anime the drawing it takes like 2 years so the art is actually extremely good especially compared to american cartoons that look like 6 year olds drew them.Reason 3: Its kinda like an rpg where it lets you into a different world. Reason 4: It's funny as hell if you watch the right shows (Golden Boy is the funniest thing I've ever seen.) Reason 5: (reason known to me but not for me) some guys/girls like the cartoons more then they should.... think there actually attractive. As for the dubbed I have no clue why you would watch it. Subbed is much better even though you have to read it. As for the no plot thing some don't but most of them do watch Princess Monoke you might change your mind about anime.I'll post some more reasons when I think of them. Hope this helps some.

Oh, Mold, why do you "strongly dislike" anime? Why strong feelings about it? You get run over by anime fans or something?
I dont have that much of a preoblem with it cept one thing sorta claws into me everytime I see. They have huge eyes, big as their fucking head I swear.
The only anime I like is when it is dubbed. It's funny as hell.
I say everyone Go call there cable company and get anime network 24/7 anime... all dubbed for thoughs who don't like/ can't read
I'm pretty sure most anime is created for Japanese men, not to come across racist but it is said that Japanese men are very attracted to girls in their school uniform... That is the reason that at always some point in an anime series you will see such a thing.
And as I am sure alot of you people are aware there is the japanese anime known as Hentai... in other words cartoon porn. Which is also mainly created (in general) for japanese men and often includes images of underage CARTOON characters having sex... in the most obscure ways. And just think, some people get hot of that shit...[/i]
people like anime because its like an escape of the real world anime was created for japanese men because they like younger girls but of coruse thats againset the law so it was the nearest thing japanese men could wank over to be honest anime is what ever you would like it to be so it attracted alot of people sorry people iam not sure i like it i mean sky loves the cartoon but just not for me o well

I think my feelings toward it come from a lot of the people I have encountered who die for it. And the debates that have come about over the quality of the art itself.
And I dislike it because, from an artists standpoint, it isn't "good" stuff- in my book. Just like, from an musicians standpoint, I loathe awful bands for getting the credit they do.
Does that clear anything up?
i agree with psychosis. american cartoons suck. although some anime is pretty bad too, like pokemon and yu-gi-oh.

i'm not too into anime, but i saw this series once on cartoon network called fooley cooley......it was so weird that i HAD to watch it.....i also have seen dominion tank police. those dudes in tanks were throwing big inflatable weiners in the road to thwart their pursuers.....crazy stuff...

My favorite anime movie has to be Ghost in the Shell.
i like anime and i dislike japanese men vampire hunter D is pretty good most of the anime they play on adult swim is decent Slayers is good.
Anime is a welcome change from the American cartoons we have all become so accustomed to. The art, even if unrealistic (not more irrealistic than most other cartoons though) somehow still has an appeal and allows a lot of personality to be expressed/put in the characters through liberties allows and style it has. In general the plot is also better and the characters are more believable. It is geared towards an older audience, and therefore many young people who have given up on American cartoons for entertainment (though a few shows like the Simpsons do not suffer the massive loss of viewers beyond a certain age) when they get into contact with anime. Some of it does require an acquired taste, but that goes for almost anything in life... A lot of the things we appreciate as funny or enjoyable in shows like Friends or romantic comedies like Notting Hill are after all also things we learned to appreciate and enjoy by watching similar humor. Anime is no different.
Ofcourse, that doesn't take away that it is just a cartoon and eventually adults tend to prefer seeing life actors rather than drawn ones. Still anime in general is of pretty good quality and it should come as no surprise that non-Japanese viewers can appreciate it as well. And the fact that it is in another language also makes it something new and fresh, something unexpected. And this ofcourse results in a sub-culture/community which you can 'belong' to. Which is again a positive factor in getting people interested in it.
I could prolly ramble on more and try to make some points, but I think I won't. Fact is, cartoons are taken a lot more seriously in Japan and are not just for 12 years and below. A lot more effort is put into them and they are tuned to be appreciated by more adult people.This is probably why they are appreciated.
Valtiel, you should make a clear distinction between anime and hentai though. They are two quite different things.
