Topic: Republican Convention

What did you guys think about the convention?  I have 4 points I want to make:

1.  Juliani:  WOW!  I've never actually heard this guy speak for any substantial period of time, but I am definitely impressed.  This guy is a born public speaker.

2.  McCain:  hehe...  A great speach.  I particularly liked the comment about Moore.  And it went over so well the first time, he said it twice!

3.  Swartza....  Swartzen...  Swarzen....  The Guy from California ( big_smile ):  I really wondered why the people of California would elect Arnold as Governor.  After hearing him speak, I know why.  Simply inspirational.

4.  The Bush Girls:  Boring, expected, and not funny in the least.  Eh...  At least the brunette is good looking. big_smile

"My Grandma thought Sex in the City was something Adults did and shouldnt talk about" sooooooo not funny.. but the end of the introduction was fine

The repeated use of the word "hip" made me cringe a bit.

Also, we know they can hold their liquor, which is a definite plus. big_smile

Re: Republican Convention

This is the speech, as it was prepared before the convention:
http://www.herald-sun.com/nationworld/14-517231.html

Pay particularly close attention to the following segment:

"Our choice wasn't between a benign status quo and the bloodshed of war.

It was between war and a graver threat. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Not our critics abroad. Not our political opponents.

And certainly not a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam's Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children held inside their walls."

After this, the crowd began booing Moore, who (unknown to McCain) was in the audience at the time.  After he realized that Moore was there, and the crowd calmed down, he said:
"It went over so big, I'll say it again...  And certainly not a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam's Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children held inside their walls."
(that part wasn't in the prepared speech.)

Re: Republican Convention

Obviously McCain, like most of your party, never saw the film, and embarassed himself to anyone who had.

I have lost a lot of respect for John McCain. I still think he's a good man, and I fault him not on what he says and does. But on a personal level, I have lost some respect for him (and no, not because of that speech segment).

OMG!  Mold lost respect for McCain?  I'll email him and let him know, so he can throw away all sense of truth, decency, and personal philosophy and join Kerry's campaign. wink

Agreed, FB.  I was shocked at how articulate the man is.

Re: Republican Convention

I was much more focused on the protests. I wish it had been in Los Angeles rather than NY, that way I could have joined in. Oh well.

Thank you for throwing my opinion out with the trash.

Re: Republican Convention

Typical conservatives, Mold. If its not their way its the wrong way.

Re: Republican Convention

Then I lsoe more respect, yet again. Moore never said anything about Saddam being a good man, and Iraq being a good place. In fact he said, or rather implied quite the opposite.

Which makes me really wonder why McCain would have said something so untrue . . . because I (still) don't think the man is a liar.

Re: Republican Convention

Which makes me really wonder why McCain would have said something so untrue

Well, that's probably the way the movie came off to him; as it did to many others.

Thank you for throwing my opinion out with the trash.

I'm sorry.  You'd probably prefer that I recycle it. big_smile

Re: Republican Convention

He he, finally a joke that is true!

Oh, if by "many" you mean a small majority of the people who saw the film, then okay . . .  theory possible.

I would just like to point out the phrase "small majority."  A definite oxymoron.

Re: Republican Convention

Do you know how many Ferenheit 9/11 polls have been created? Find me ONE with the number of MODERATES who walked away with that mentality and impression after viewing the film.

21

Re: Republican Convention

Show me a poll that included more than 2 actual moderates.  Hell, even McCain isn't really a moderate.

22

Re: Republican Convention

I know McCain isn't. That is why I have concluded he is viewing it from a hardcore political bias, and doesn't see what Moore intended at all, because of the bullshit the wicked right has said about it, which has, in turn, plagued the minds of the innocent!

23

Re: Republican Convention

Hmm...  I see.  So, what kind of drugs did Moore give you again?  My guess would be the date rape drug, and maybe a little morphine. big_smile

McCain's speech: http://www.2004nycgop.org/cgi-data/spee … 4i7m.shtml

Rudy's speech: http://www.2004nycgop.org/cgi-data/spee … xpyf.shtml

Laura Bush's speech: http://www.2004nycgop.org/cgi-data/spee … pa35.shtml

Ironically I liked her speech the best.  I think it really put a human face on Bush and reminded even me that some people can look at the same thing and see two completely different things.  Such as the way liberals and conservatives look at America, or how one person can love someone else while another hates everything about that person, what they stand for, supporters of them, everything they say, everything they do and perhaps even hating of what they are.

Re: Republican Convention

Well seeing as how I am from California, I thought I might as well take a few minutes to shoot down my pal, the Governators, speech. And away we go. big_smile

Speaking of acting, one of my movies was called "True Lies." It's what the Democrats should have called their convention.

And the Republicans make an attempt for a low blow! But seriously this statement was not smart in the least. He is governor of a state which is FAR more Democratic than Republican. The only reason he got elected was cause of a fluke, in which our last Governor wasn't suited for the job, and the other runner's were all worse than Arnold. He can't expect to win again if he keeps throwing statements like these.

My family didn't have a car -- but one day we were in my uncle's car. It was near dark as we came to a Soviet checkpoint. I was a little boy, I wasn't an action hero back then, and I remember how scared I was that the soldiers would pull my father or my uncle out of the car, and I'd never see him again. My family and so many others lived in fear of the Soviet boot. Today, the world no longer fears the Soviet Union and it is because of the United States of America!

Point of reference: We, although stood in the Soveit's way from taking voer many countries, had no direct affect on their fall from power. In essence no empire will last forever and theirs just sorta fell due to that. Instability from within.

I said to my friend, "What party is he?" My friend said, "He's a Republican." I said, "Then I am a Republican!" And I've been a Republican ever since! And trust me, in my wife's family, that's no small achievement! I'm proud to belong to the party of Abraham Lincoln, the party of Teddy Roosevelt, the party of Ronald Reagan and the party of George W. Bush.

This is mainly aimed towards the Abraham Lincoln statement. I am not sure how long ago, but at some point in the mid 1800's the Republican party back then WAS the Democratic party. So I am not entirely sure if he is the kind of Republican they actually wanted in that speech, or maybe he was just using him simply cause it said Republican despite its actual meaning.

If you believe that government should be accountable to the people, not the people to the government...then you are a Republican! If you believe a person should be treated as an individual, not as a member of an interest group... then you are a Republican! If you believe your family knows how to spend your money better than the government does... then you are a Republican! If you believe our educational system should be held accountable for the progress of our children ... then you are a Republican! If you believe this country, not the United Nations, is the best hope of democracy in the world ... then you are a Republican! And, ladies and gentlemen ...if you believe we must be fierce and relentless and terminate terrorism ... then you are a Republican!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA...oh that was great. Basically he is saying the Democrats are all that is not posted here. I particularly liked the one about the U.N. Typical go-it alone attitude in the world and fuck everybody else over.

We move prosperity ahead. We move freedom ahead. We move people ahead. Under President Bush, and Vice President Cheney, America's economy is moving ahead in spite of a recession they inherited and in spite of the attack on our homeland.

Another FUN FACT by Gothic big_smile : Actually currect economists show that in mid 2001 out unemployment was just below 5%(which is REALLY good if you know your economy) and then with the coming election is rose to about 8%. This, it is figured, wasn't due to any of the actual standing parties but rather all the rapid attention around the coming election. However 4 years should have been enough to stabilize this, so Bush and the Republicans can't really say they inherited it and promise it will be gone if they get re-elected if they couldn't see fit to do it the first time.

The President didn't go into Iraq because the polls told him it was popular. As a matter of fact, the polls said just the opposite. But leadership isn't about polls. It's about making decisions you think are right and then standing behind those decisions. That's why America is safer with George W. Bush as President.

Actually AMERICAN Leadership is. We don't elect people so they can get into power and do whatever the FUCK they please. We elect em in the interest that they will do what the majority of US think is right. Did he do that? NO! He took advantage of the power WE gave him and did what WE didn't want him to do. I am sorry but that sounds a bit more like a Dictatorship rather than a Democracy.

When that lone, young Chinese man stood in front of those tanks in Tiananmen Square America's hopes stood with him.

Thats such a complete load of bullshit. Typical Americans, something happens that is great in the eyes of the world and all of a sudden: We were with him in Spirit!!. Please we are on the side of whoever wins so WE look good. That student risked everything to do what he did so shame on us when we try to jump in and snag a bit of his credit. You know what we were looking for during that time? We weren't hoping for him. No. We were hoping for increased trade with China. We were hoping for more money.
