Topic: Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.

A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness, and you need our prayers for your recovery.

You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the right to adopt.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

You've been talking to far too many liberals.  They've corrupted your young, impressionable mind.

We were wrong about the man when we put him in power.  We went after him when we realized this.  Cheney never did business with Saddam.  And he was always a bad guy, that's why we took him out.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

That has nothing to do with the Republican view.  Hell, Bush is the one who brought the idea of dropping sanctions against Cuba; an idea that was promptly shot down.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.

We wanted to enforce the resolutions back when we thought other countries in the UN were at least upholding them.  Boy, were we ever wrong on that.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

Women can be trusted to make their own decisions, but when it involves a child, the man should also have a say in it.  But, hey, let's not leave men with any rights in this country. roll

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Bill Clinton, not Hillary.  God doesn't hate her, he just thinks she's a stupid bitch for not leaving Bill after the FIRST time he cheated on her.  tongue

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

That was the Democrats who slashed benefits and pay.  That's why by the end of Clinton's term, over 30% of retired veterans had lost their military pension.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

All Republicans want is to NOT be asociated with teenagers having sex.  No one is stopping them from getting the condoms themselves.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Actually, that's what they've been doing for the last 40 years.  Even the German government has apollogized for their mistakes and pledged to comit troops to Iraq.  (which they are doing, if somewhat slowly.)

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.

We're not giving healthcare to all Iraqi's.  At least not in the way Democrats want us to here.  We are bringing in doctors/medics to help the Iraqi people, and teach them medical practices so they can do it themselves.  Liberals want our government to pay everyones medical bills, which is impossible in a country like this.  Also, Bush set up the federal prescription care plan, which has done more for healthcare than any other president in history.

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

This may be true.  I've noticed a tendency in the Republican party to back these groups.  Personally, I think that if we didn't have any medical insurance in this country, places that provide medical care would be forced to lower their prices for it, or go bankrupt.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

Nobody wants creationism to be taught in schools.  That's just something extreme liberals use to bash conservatives and their values.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense.

No, but commiting perjury is.  Haven't you been listening to me?

A president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

Ah... You've been listening to the liberals.  That's explains it.
He didn't lie.  In order to lie, you need intent to deceive.  Given all the reports from just about EVERY credible intelligence source around the world, it's obvious he believed what he said.
Also, the only thing he was wrong about was the WMD's, and Saddam was in the process of making them.  (he needed the material, which he was purchasing from Niger.)

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

Both parties are guilty of censorship.  Liberals are the ones that created the concept of "hate-speech" and made it illegal.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

Bush has never covered up his driving record.  He even talked about it in the 2000 election, when Gore brought it up.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

Who the hell said that?  What did either of them do at the time that affects us (as a whole) now?  Personally, unless they comitted a crime, or where in a position of power over the country, or BOTH, it doesn't matter.  On this subject, I'd just like to point out that republicans have dropped the debate over Kerry's war record, but Kerry hasn't.

I'm ashamed of you, Ender.  I thought you wouldn't buy into all the liberal hype.

I think Brim shows again here he has selective interpretation, and maybe even a filter on information he doesn't want to hear.

This is largely drawn as a conclusion by the incomplete quotes and selective replies.

All the facts I presented here can be found in the reports by the Senate Intelligence committee, and the 911 Commission.  The opinions are just that, opinions.

I may have "selective interpretation," but at least my interpretation is based on facts/actual reports, not the all-to-common judgments of prominent liberals.  You may want to work on that. big_smile

Re: Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

Bush has condemned trade with Cuba, and he recently attacked Kerry on it.

Re: Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

I don't trust the opinion of anyone who uses "here" instead of "hear." Sorry, but I am an english bitch and that is an unforgivable crime.

Just messing, good points on both sides. Although I think conservatives still hate Hilary because if she ever ran for president she'd win.

Re: Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

Replublicans? contradicting themselves? Never!!

The conservative party in Britain aren't much better, they backed the war in Iraq and in parliaments referendum and had they not had done so Britain would not have gone to war as Tony Blairs own party didn't give him full backing. We only went to war on the extra votes the conservative party voters placed.
Yet when Mr Blair comes under criticism for leading the country to war under false pretenses the Tory party join in claiming he should have never of sent British forces to set foot in Iraq.

Did you write that yourself Ender? if so, i'm impressed.

Re: Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

sorry sad But liberals are too goody goody and think humanity can achieve peace. Obviously, wrong we've been fighting since before democracy and government. So why not jump on the war bandwagon? Seeing dead terrorists is extremely satisfying, as to them seeing dead Americans is satisfying.
