Topic: Yay for the BBC
This is from an English "comrade" of mine.
I was watching the BBC News channel on Sunday morning and listened to a journalist describe a US State Department intelligence briefing that he had aquired a few days before.
The briefing document listed a 24 hour "incident report" along with a general overview of the situation as it stands. Basically it goes like this:
(several pages of details regarding attacks on US troops), then "..attacks are increasing in areas that previously have shown no history of resistance to Coalition forces", "..the failure to target and eliminate resistance leaderships and wanted individuals has led Coalition forces to focus almost entirely on soft and peripheral targets. This inevitably includes civilian losses but at the same time will demoralize the resistance and help convince the media". (emphasis is mine)
Not that many of you will have to read between the lines here. The upshot is that not only is the fight spreading across the whole of Iraq but the US military have taken the decision to officially target civilian areas (errr. isn't this a fucking war crime?). I suppose the line "....help convince the media" means that long distance photo opportunities of buildings being pounded will have everyone believe that we're 'giving to them'. I also doubt that the suggested strategy will totally demoralize the resistance; I think it's more likely to provide further recruits and support for them.
I just thought that since this story has been significantly buried in the UK media then it's likely to have been completely erased and forgotten in the US.
