Fraps wont let you record DvD's you'll get a black screen on playback

Ah, it works to record video games that are full screen, I figured DVD's would be the same. My bad.

That's the trial version.
If you buy it, it's not like that.

Yeah unfortunately =/ cuz its a pretty good program nonetheless for getting ingame movies.

Put the video from fraps into Windows Movie Maker. Then, a 25MB video becomes like 3MB. But still the quality is poor. And if you want to record something it makes you PC 10 times slower.
The AVI that FRAPS spits out is a RAW AVI without any codec compression. So, of course it's huge. Drop it into WMM or run the DIVX codec or XviD or anything other than raw.
And, yes, I'm disappointed by the low quality, but that is because they want you to buy the full version.
And, really, 640x480 is the perfect size for Faldon.. so.. FRAPS will work great for recording Faldon.
