What mainly needs to be done for new map to be finished? Someone that can script? Map should be long done. If it's just a scriptor then I don't understand how someone cant help write scripts to finish the map. If noone can script that's a different story; however, I know people can script so I think someone needs to be appointed by Coma that wants to script.
Gohma, I have been helping with scripting for some time. I have written
quite a few Faldon NPC's/Objects. Including some for the new map. I have
always left myself open to help. As far as Coma appointing someone to
help, I doubt it will happen. A person who scripts must be GM level 3.
This is a HUGE jump, and requires massive trust.
Currently, their are no real scripters, this is true. Spectre can script
but.. has well taken a break.. Wu does art/mappingm, and same with
Zammbi.
Edit: In case you are wondering, the scripts I have done that are IN
the game are those of the Gremlin quest. Guard, town NPC, Gremlin,
Lever, Gate script. And I have done even more that have not been
implemented mainly new map stuff.
I have heard that you have been helping with the scripting which is good. It is true that if Coma did appoint someone to help, they would have to either have their stuff uploaded by another GM or made a GM themself which does not seem like a plausible happening. Having someone upload your stuff wouldnt work for working on in depth stuff. You would have to be a GM for that. I can script also and have offered myself also. Of course I was a GM once upon a time and that was then and this is now. Bill's rants paid off and he definitely got what he wanted.
The problem isn't that we have people who can't script, it's more like, the people who can script, won't upload scripts or the people who can upload scripts don't play, or the people who can script, can't upload.
Well, Wu can't script. Zammbi can't script. Caff can't script. Spectre,
Wu, and myself however worked QUITE well together. I did a complete
quest through them, got things created and uploaded QUICKLY. Found
a bug (SMALL cheat) was fixed IMMEDIATELY after found, even with
having to go through another GM for uploading. It was not too bad.
But, Wu has decided to stop with his quests, which in turn has
made it so I have stopped since I worked mainly with him. Wu
decided with a new client coming art was more worthy of his
time, I kind of agree. I would be more than willing to do scripts,
but I do not think Coma would like that idea. He doesn't like me
ever since he stole Lothar. At least.. it seems that way.
Basically, what happened with new map was - it was almost complete, Crov and I just needed to finish all of the scripting that we had been planning, along with small tidbits of map editing.
THEN Crov and I dissapeared for a bit, and when I returned my town had been bulldozed over and nothing is the same, so the storyline is no longer there, and the map is no longer anywhere near completion. Go figure.
If any of you guys who used to always TP onto new map and make me angry still have your map files from about a year or so ago (muff, i'm looking in your general direction), it'd be sweet if you would send it to me.
So mumblee.. if you had the old mapfiles you could.. lets say.. restore certain areas? because a certain GM kinda changed Specs War map to a complete shit hole.
If anything Fb, they could remake it. I would rather try recreating it if we couldnt get the old map files in. What is in there now is no good. Mumblee you're probably pissed that your town got bulldozed, I would be too. I don't see Crov on ever so I don't know if he is still helping with the new map. Pretty much right now what is on the map needs to be looked at and pretty much some quests need to be made out of it? That's what it seems. This 2 year project should have been only a couple of months.

Yes, I can map and script. And I HAD mapped and scripted a lot of the stuff for new map. But now it's gone. That's the problem. Whether or not we have the ability isn't the issue, the time investment is.
Mumblee who's fault is it that you left? If you can script and map why
don't you just do it? Stop complaining. We do not want to hear you
complain about something you can fix but are not willing.
Yes, Lothar, that's exactly the attitude you should be taking. Hearing you complain about the time and effort I put into the game, pro bono, is certainly going to motivate me to do more work so that you can be ungrateful about that too. I mean, it certainly kept all of the Gms before me around, didn't it? I guess since THEY are all still actively participating in furthering this game, you guys don't even really need my help, do you?

Agreed you owe nothing to the new map mumblee...You did your work and it got bulldozed so there is no earnest on you to have to rebuild.
But im under the impression that the new map is complete as far as map editing is concerned and it simply needs some scripts uploaded etc~
If Coma/Zer are not going to organise and get involved then i dont see why the pressure is on these GM's that they simply appointed and then left and said Take care of my baby for me~ As far as i know there is no appointment...No set tasks to complete...so whatever editing gets done, gets done on a thought not an instruction...If there is no set ideas then there is going to be conflict.

Yeah, originally what happened was that we didn't have internet when moving into my fraternity house. Then there was the whole thing with Catbert, so I decided to just focus on school (since I was bordering on Academic probation). Anyhow, the map is not "done" aside from scripting. I mean, there is a lot of stuff on the map, yes, but it's stuff that shouldn't be there. If released now, it would be just another retarded map that people barely ever use. Basically, a lot of what was added needs to be undone in order to get things back on track.
Anyhow, Lothar, assuming that I have done 0 scripts in 8 months, if you were to add two scripts, that would not be "doubling" the number I have done. This is a division by 0 problem. The limit as X-> 0 of 2/x is undefined because it goes to infinity.
Let's clear this up:

I said you have done 0 in eight months. I then said I could do that too.
I then said I would do two more, this would put me at 2 scripts every
eight months. Then I decided I would double that and do 4 every
eight months. Then I realized I have already done more than that
in less time. There is no error in that math.

Mumblee's shit got bulldozed just like mine. I had done less though but we still got the same treatment. If you guys want to argue with each other that's what Private messages are. For the most part, Scripting needs to be done for the new map to be finished. Who's going to do it if we arn't?

So really, this is the place for our arguments. We are discussing things
that is the point of the forum.
And Gohma, I will do the scripting. You do not have to be GM to script,
summer is almost here and I am sure I will have free time. I will
help out if they want. But as of now Wu at least is more concerned with
new art than mapping/scripting.
Ok Ill say my comments... When I was Gmed the map had not been touched for months. Spec told me that I could edit as much as I could so, I edited the most crappy town which was the evil town. You couldn’t really even call it a town it has 3 buildings and a crappy fence, and all the scripts were totally shitty and not even finished. I totally made it into a real town created a heap of npcs/scripts and got a few friends to create some too. I asked crov to finish his town but I see it’s still unfinished. Really I was waiting to add/test some npcs/quests before opening it. Then once it was open I would finish the wyrm cave and a few other caves for quests, since I wasn’t gona work on other caves when the main map wasn’t finished. I didn’t work for many many hours so it could be all wiped.

Zammbi, wiped??? When was your stuff wiped?
Yes I know jesus who knows he could of put more time into it, but if hes restoring an old map file then really you would need to redo most of whole map 6 again. All I did was rebuilt his town, I even keep the outline and a few buildings. It also wasnt my fault my orders was to change any of the map.

I'm surprised that Aaron would tell you that, considering I was building it to HIS specifications. I even have the aim logs from the gm chats we had. Regardless, lots of buildings and NPCs a town makes not. The reason we were taking so long to release is because we wanted to make a town with a specific feel to it. We wanted to build a map that was worth spending time on. Everything in the two towns was tied together.
Further, i'm not sure what the town was like when you got ahold of it, but when I left it there were at least 4 buildings that I had created, 2 that Catbert had made (the church with the weird roof, and the sand house that was gonna be redone), and 2 that other GMs had built (the skull shaped sandstone one, and the corner one), plus parts of various other pieces of the town.
Throwing together tons of random buildings with no real purpose results in a Charmville. Is that the legacy you want to leave?
