Topic: New players in Faldon.

Many newer players do not know what to do when they start Faldon. They
seem very confused, and it is kind of sad *feels bad*  :-p

So, my suggestion is we start helping them out. No, I am not asking you
to be nice, though that woudl be cool too... Here is what I am asking:

What kinds of things are hard for a new player to learn on their own?
What kinds of things should they be aware of? Leave any comments
here, they will be read, and if I agree, they will be used.

Thanks.

Edit: Fixed reversed words...

Re: New players in Faldon.

A link to my site somewhere would help out tongue

Although its more geared towards knowlegeable players...

I will be working on some Newb related stuff after exam season.

Re: New players in Faldon.

Well there's lots of stuff, i'll try to get as much as possible (i almost just started so i know most problems, but its also possible that i missed some guides to describe my problems, but if i missed them, so may others big_smile)

Where to buy spell books? I didn't know at first, and i always wanted to be a mage (I think it would be better if everyone started with nights sight and had to do a easy quest to get magic missile, like the "Skelwyn's Gift" smile)

Also, a very important thing. I think you, hopefully not on purpose, tricks all the starters by not telling them about the skill cap. i learned about it by a friend that started a multichar and was stuck with very spreaded skills. He quitted because he would not pay, and he felt tricked. Now I try to keep me in borders of only some skills, and thereby still be able to be good without having to pay... sad.

I also tried to start a crafter, without much succes... where do i get a pickaxe, and where is there a mine??? where do i get a hatchet and saw for woodworking??? and scribery is impossible without a lot of money, but how should I know that?

And a thief is hard too. I couldn't figure why i couldn't steal that gold piece i saw the mouse had by snooping.

A thing that is greatly needed is a place where you can easily see at what skill you get a title, like beside the skills under the picture (where the description should be, but i haven't found any :?)

probably coming more when i remember it, but here is something to work with smile

edit:
a big problem in the start is money... i usually threw my rodent furs away, because i thought they had no use. the "Sacrifices may only be performed on holy ground" quote when i right clicked them didn't help much. it would be good if you were told that snake skins and rodent furs could be sold to Lorelei, at a decent price even.

Re: New players in Faldon.

Yeah, I had an easy time of it when I was a newb, but I adapt quickly. It is fun to help newbs. My favorite thing to do is advertise over the chat channel: "Taking newbs into dangerous places" Let a couple of guys join my party, and kill tons of weak monsters for them.

Basically it helps boost newb morale, cause they can help out a bit with the weak monsters, and it gets them thinking that this might actually be worth playing, so when they do, they stick around longer and bring more people to the community.

This, by the way, is what got me into gaming, helping newbs. It is sadly addicting.

It is high time I put something intelligent here.

Ee can oi give R cuz me founded uno

I guess you dont have the same helpful attitude on the mesage board.

And Kartiana...the problem with a lot of new players is that they hear about it from a friend...Download the game and then try to play it right off.

If someone actually took the time of day to read the Starting Out Guide then they would know a lot more.

Also it clearly states the advantages as Citizen in Upgrade Account.

If new players actually took the time to read through the website for 5-10minutes i think it would help them greatly.

Re: New players in Faldon.

I know that Jesus, but that is exactly the problem. The new people dont want to read through guides and "how to start"'s (in general that is). They want a game they can download and play and easily get started.

Sadly i must say that since there are so many RPG's out there, the gamers begins to expect more from the individual game. Examples could be like the many people saying:
"well in runescape you can..." and
"muonline is much better because..."
It is, sadly, only the small part of gamers that is reading about a game before they play it, perhaps they read later on, but they dont want to waste time reading a lot about it if they dont like playing it right off.

Thats why we will want it to be easier starting up without reading all the guides, but instead get it a little by little in small "popups" in the game.

as you said yourself:

And Kartiana...the problem with a lot of new players is that they hear about it from a friend...Download the game and then try to play it right off.

It is those people that we have to get to keep playing instead of only keeping those 10-30% that read the guides before they play

Re: New players in Faldon.

Well..i dont understand it.

If i play a game...and i cant figure out how to walk or talk in the game..I dont  give up playing...I seek the information i need.

Hmm there is an idea...i might make a keyboard layout with all the Faldon required keys and the actions they perform.

I think Faldon needs to seperate the Levels a lot more...Have Lvl restricted areas where there is a minimum AND a maximum lvl to enter.

A lvl 400 killing people in the snail pit is no fun...

Maybe more Quests that actually require the player to explore into the game a bit more.

Re: New players in Faldon.

Hmm Tim..what about a Ping system for NPC's...not sure how applicable that would be in this Client but..

Its all well and good to tell people "sell stuff to lorelei" but they cant find her...or "Buy spells from Jared"

How about a sign or something where you can select an NPC and its location Pings on your Map.

Oh wait...the Tina quest actually uses exactly what im describing...It pings the location of the Entrance Guard...Re-use that for other NPC's

thats what we patient people do. The only problem is, most people isn't patient... so my suggestion tries to get the unpatient people to play the game too smile

and btw, youre ping idea is great  wink

First, Tina is mine. Second, it has also been done on NPC's like Skelwyn.
Hmm that is like what? Since beta? Skelwyn is meant to be the players
guide at low levels.

Re: New players in Faldon.

If you newbs need help playing.. Come find Tareim, Lakitu, Mumblee or Crovmon. Make sure to T them or JP them and ask for gold and items... Make sure to tell them that FB sent you.. You will get tons of loot from them that way.. It is a good plan. Trust me.

What I am saying... Is why don't you take a look at Skelwyn, and
see that this "ping system" is already in place. You will note that
your very example about lorelei is even one of the pings.

Not only this, but there is a ping to the bank, the inn, dashiva,
mice, snakes... And perhaps more, at the moment I can not remember
anything else.

25

Re: New players in Faldon.

Hmm ok then...

So the issue arises to WHY are the players not aware of this Ping.

Maybe a walkthrough to lvl 15 would be good..

Take them through mice-wolves-turkeys...skeletons..and once they are level 15 set them free into the world
