No need to guess =p it was sooooooo obvious
THEY ARE METAL. NOT POWER METAL, DEATH METAL, SUPER MEGA METAL, IRON METAL, OR ANYTHING ELSE.
Christ, you people make everything so complicated.
You're a dumbass and you fail to realise the fact that there is generally a HUGE difference between metal genres. To list all 'metal' bands under one category is plain stupid.
Just because you're damn ignorant to what metal is all about, you don't have to flaunt the fact that you know jack shit about metal around for everyone to see. Same goes for mold.
I don't know shit about Indie rock, Clueless and proud I be.

What difference is that? Oh, they sound slightly different. So does rap. The thing about it is (unless I'm mistaken), THEY ARE GENERALIZED AS RAP. Why is metal an exception? It's not. Shall we hear an opinion about this subject that isn't biased, anyone?
Why are you getting so defensive? It's pathetic really. I label all metal as metal and you start foaming at the mouth. Well listen up you stupid little shit and get it through your head I enjoy metal and know much about it, don't even say I don't know jack shit about it. I am in no way ignorant about the subject, if your stupidity didn't reign over your intelligence (or lack of) you would realize this. Don't bite more than you can chew. This is a warning junior. Watch the fucking language or you will get more than you can handle.
Rap can be called rap because all it consists of is a generic beat and a nigger attempting poetry.

There is obviously a major difference between rap and metal (besides the music itself). Rap is rap. It is not a term used to group a number of genres. Metal IS an exception, there are tonnes of genre that sound extremely different too each other. But of course you wouldn't know this as all your metal 'knowledge' comes from a CoB song, an Iniquity song and probably some generic heavy metal like Iron Maiden and the likes. Please listen to a 'Sunn O)))' song and something like 'Pagan's Mind' or 'Winds' THEN go ahead and try say that they should be listed as the same genre.

Wow, ok hero. You've sure documented the fact that your knowledge of metal is so abundant by saying that metal should be listed under one genre. I don't know if that's the lack of metal knowledge or just plain stupidity that has led you to believe that that idea is somewhat feasible.
If you want to use the term 'metal' for simplicity sake in a conversation and what-not, that is fine, I am not disputing that. But if you're going to say that metal should be grouped together as one genre, well I'm going to have to argue that.

No fucking shit. Thanks for solving that mystery, Sherlock. What you didn't realize is my whole point. Let me go slow for you: All rap is considered rap. It is all different (some is about slapping hoes, some is about getting high and hitting 'dem clubs, and even some is about how one man is against the world and manages to overcome impossible odds, and all of it is considered complete and utter crap) but it is still considerd 'Rap'. Not power rap, demi rap, or whatever fucked up names you want to give it. Hope this helps.
Another example: A Tout Le Monde is a slow paced Megadeth song. Devil's Island is a fast paced Megadeth song. IT IS STILL FUCKING CONSIDERED MEGADETH. Same goes for Metal.

That opinion does not depict my knowledge of metal. Granted, I don't study the fucking shit like you do but I know my stuff. It is my opinion and it does not change the fact that I am not ignorant to metal and 'it's varieties', according to you. So tell me, why is metal an exception from all the other music genres?

All those different types of 'rap' that you mentioned are all the same type of music, just with different lyrics. Just because the lyrics a different, a whole new genre does not have to be created.
Another example: A Tout Le Monde is a slow paced Megadeth song. Devil's Island is a fast paced Megadeth song. IT IS STILL FUCKING CONSIDERED MEGADETH. Same goes for Metal.
What a pointless comparison... I don't know if there is really a worthy point somewhere there, I suggest that you re-read what you just typed here and fix it to make it of some use to your argument.

Metal is not a genre; it is just a term used to group all the types of ~metal (black, death, doom, etc...).
Potatoes
Potatoes
Yip

wow crov solved the problem

Wrong. They have different instruments used and have different paces or 'phat beats', yo.

Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that it doesn't help contribute to my argument.

Metal IS a genre. It is a type or class of music. Exactly. All metal is metal, nothing else. Unless you can prove this to me my opinion will stay the same. As of now, all you have done is say 'you're wrong' and 'no, metal is not all considered just metal because it is different, hyuk!'.

tbh i only knew of two types metal, metal and heavy metal but thats not my scene.
With rap on the other hand, well rap is part of hip-hop really so that renders you point pretty errr ...... pointless
also there are sub catagorys of rap aswell so err yea
in conclusion i think my music tastes and xttz's are quite different so you may not have know that but i dont know anything about metal so anyway thats my two pence

People, learn how to argue. Jesus. You can't just go 'you're wrong! lawlawlawl' and be done with it. Back up your points.
Rap is a part of hip-hop. Wrong. Rap is just different rhyming lyrics about different things with different beats. That is all. Hip-hop is some other crap. It all sucks but it is considered completely different.
Durrr errr yeaha uuhhhh mmmm What other sub catagories are there? durrr arrrrrrr roaaarrr moooo
That conclusion sucked. You did not state any of your previous points, nor did you expand on them before that. Booooooo, someone get the loser off the field.
How about rap is definatly part of hip-hop its label under it in cds, furthermore at hip-hop awards there are seperate rap awards admitedly some rappers win general hip-hop awards.
Also another thing you may want to know is that rap lyrics dont have to rhyme.
Some sub-catagories of rap are grime, garage MCing, urban, hip-hop style, RnB style, gangsta, well thats all i can think of at the moment.
Hows that ?
Sub-genres*
Wrong. They have different instruments used and have different paces or 'phat beats', yo.
Rap is a genre. There is probably sub-genres to compensate for those slight changes of pace change and beats; I'm not sure though, I'm not a rap expert.
Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that it doesn't help contribute to my argument.
...

You are saying a band can play fast paced and slow paced songs, and still be classified as made by the same band. Well, thanks alot there Captain fucking Obvious; if a band makes a song, no matter how different it is to their other stuff, it is still considered one of their songs. Now that you've stated the blatantly obvious, you can't just say that the same rules apply to a genre.

Heavy metal is a genre. Doom metal is a genre. Black metal is a genre. Folk metal is a genre. Neoclassical metal is a genre... metal itself is NOT a genre for fuck sake.
'All metal is metal' indeed, but it's not that simple.

Yes because everyone knows MTV is the BEST at labelling bands as the correct genre...

No shit, but they generally do.

http://www.shopemi.com/ labels all genres and subgenres. Want to know what they put for every subgenre of rap? They put 'rap'. Want to know why? BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY GOD DAMN SUBGENRES. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself.
Hows that ?
You failed miserably. Don't worry, many do.

Let me break it down for you: No matter what change in beat, lyrics, pace, and whatever the fuck else, it will still be considered in it's main for. I thought the whole analogy would help you out, but obviously you're a retard like Fireborn and try to see past it. It's fucking simple, look at it at it's basic point.
Heavy metal is a genre. Doom metal is a genre. Black metal is a genre. Folk metal is a genre. Neoclassical metal is a genre... metal itself is NOT a genre for fuck sake.
Prove it. What is it then?
'All metal is metal' indeed
And nothing more.

I know its basic point but it was totally illogical.
Heavy metal is a genre. Doom metal is a genre. Black metal is a genre. Folk metal is a genre. Neoclassical metal is a genre... metal itself is NOT a genre for fuck sake.
Prove it. What is it then?
It's a term used to group all the other types of metal, used for simplicity sake. Like if you're having a conversation, you don't say I like death, doom, black, neoclassical, folk, viking, heavy, thrash (etc...) metal, you can just say metal. I doubt the term 'metal' was made until after heavy metal and many other metal genres were originally created.
'All metal is metal' indeed
And nothing more.
Ahh, selective reading I see...
You can label every single genre of metal as one big group by saying metal in your everyday life, I don't really give a shit. But if you're trying to correct me by saying that Iniquity AREN'T death metal and CoB AREN'T power metal and that they are plain simple metal, then that is horribly incorrect.
CoB is melodic death metal too >.>
I know its basic point but it was totally illogical.
How so? Why even bother arguing if you aren't going to back up your points?

A term? And this term... is it official? If not then I say good fucking game to you, sir. Regarding the last sentence, you doubt it but you do not have anything as a fact.
Ahh I see...
Lawlawlawl see what?

How am I horribly incorrect? Explain. All you're doing is saying that I am wrong but you aren't providing anything to prove this. You can't win an argument against me just relying on assumptions.
Please guys, just stop the arguing. Neither of you are ever going to accept that you're wrong.
Xttz, stop being so overprotective over metal. You love metal but metal doesn't love you back. Someone_at_nothing, can I lick your nipple?
My balls are sweaty, want to lick them?
Are you Russian?
