Firstly, an 'I don't care' option is ALWAYS relevant.
Giving the opposite opinion without any arguments or reason... good job. I can actually somewhat see what its value would be, though I remain of the opinion that it is not really important/relevant here.
- It's not 'Its worse bla bla..'
This is sloppy, true. But its of the category youre rather than you're. Not the category your rather than you're. But I cant deny I omitted an apostrophe that shouldve be there. (*it's *can't, *should've, omg!)
- 'Not go' or stay home? (What are you doing tonight? Oh, I'm 'not going' to the pub.)
Taken out of context that is awkward yes. "go elsewhere" would work better I suppose. Still considering the context and all it's pretty clear I am just stressing that it's the opposite. (To be or not to be? Nah guess I wont be that silly.)
- You should insert a comma in between the words 'bar' and 'I'.
- Do not start your sentences with 'And'.
- For restaurants it's generally...
- 'Its generally better for business to just seperate the smokers and non-smokers.' Ouch!!
- it wouldn't
I'm sorry, for a second there I forgot this is a letter addressed to the friggin' Queen. (I submit this is not much of a defense. It'd be hard to defend considering that you're right. But... I don't really care. You win, gj.)
- Then there's the thing about you going to bars. In the first paragraph, you create the illusion that you frequently visit bars. 'It is so annoying that when I go to bars there's always this guy who smokes, who stands between me and my victim'. Then in the second paragraph you claim you do not often visit bars. Make up your mind, do you or don't you visit bars?
-I create the illusion that I frequently go to bars? Dont read things between the lines that are not there. I am saying that when I go to bars, certain things annoy me. Then I state that as a result I do not go to them often. That seems perfectly consistent to me.
-I am having trouble spotting the word 'always' in my sentence mentioning smokers standing 'between me and my victim' as you word it. I mention in a sentence that is quite seperate from the first that I find such a situation even worse. But apparently you would not be annoyed by such things unless they happened at least 50 times to you. Unfortunately, I'm just not that patient.
- Are schools, hospitals and airports 'stuff' or rather locations/public buildings/(insert anything else applicable here)
- Also, are you telling me that pub visitors are the mere product of the bar tenders' creative mind?! 'Made up by workers'
- 'Unreasonable o demand..' What?!
Alright, I am not going to bother with this. Consider it your victory if you wish.
- 'should decide that for themselves' Should decide what for themselves? You should only use 'that' when referring to something stated earlier in your paragraph. It is very unclear what 'that' is, unless you've read the whole thread.
My post is a part of this thread, it is not intended to be read by itself completely out of context. So if people do'nt read the thread, then I consider that their problem, not my own. If some part of a user agreement refers to "the service" it's not particularly clear what is meant by that unless one has read the definitions earlier in the contract.
- 'Other real public buildings' Are you telling me that when I go to the city hall, the walls might collapse because they're made out of styrofoam?!
You have somewhat of a point.
In the questionable case you really couldn't figure this out: When I said 'real' public buildings I intended to imply that I do not consider a pub as such. This is a rather vague thing if it is not further expounded upon, so... my bad.
- 'Of course one might argue that a pub is a place of work, but considering the fact that it could be argued that this is very relevant for the business and there can thus in the hiring process there can be discriminated between whether someone is willing put up with smoke or not' I need a lot of help here!!!
You're right.
- 'restaurants and stuff are the same imo' You are not a very capable fellow, are you? Restaurants and 'stuff' are quite different.
Whereas stuff can mean a lot of things in different situations like:
1. The material out of which something is made or formed; substance.
2. The essential substance or elements; essence: “We are such stuff/As dreams are made on” (Shakespeare).
3. Informal.
Unspecified material: Put that stuff over there.
Household or personal articles considered as a group.
Worthless objects.
4. Slang. Specific talk or actions: Don't give me that stuff about being tired.
5. Sports.
The control a player has over a ball, especially to give it spin, english, curve, or speed.
The spin, english, curve, or speed imparted to a ball: “where we could watch the stuff, mainly curves, that the pitchers were putting on the ball” (James Henry Gray).
6. Basketball. A dunk shot.
7. Special capability: The team really showed its stuff and won the championship.
8. Chiefly British. Woven material, especially woolens.
9. Slang. Money; cash.
10. Slang. A drug, especially one that is illegal or habit-forming.
I do not see in which category a restaurant would fit. (To be sure I'd have to look up what a restaurant is, but I'm sure that a restaurant and 'stuff' are quite different.)
Need I really respond to such a cheap crack? =P Obviously I meant that in the context of how they should be treated by smoking regulations.
So far for the second paragraph. Anyone in for the last part?
A collection consisting mostly of nitpicking intersparsed with some points that are actually somewhat relevant.
Altogether it's just a big waste of time, since I am pretty sure you got the message in spite of my horribly confusing omission of apostrophes/ Also I do not feel much inclined to change my habits as a result of your post.
The only added value I see is that you pointed out I have a habit of making long, vague sentences.
Yes, I do realize you were just playing around and stuff...
But as I am sure you realize, I am the kind of person to take it very seriously regardless.
PS. I am once more convinced you will make a fine lawyer. An evil one perhaps... but in court it's about winning, no matter how. If I ever become a dictator or serial rapist, expect a phonecall.
PPS. If you're gonna do the same to this post as you did to my last, I will not bother typing out a reply. I will reply with a picture (actually, with a link to a picture, heh). This is not a contract, nor a keynote speech.
Much love.
