Topic: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

I have recently become a huge fan of the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion (I just hope that I'm not the only peoson on the boards who watches it...).
I have the special edition box set, and recently I ordered the movie "The End of Evangelion" online (movie meant to replace the nonsense final two episodes after writer got death threats). I SWEAR THIS MOVIE HAS THE LONGEST END OF THE WORLD SCENE IN THE HISTORY OF MOVIES!!!! Also, in the background, they play this really happy sounding song that, if you listen to the lyrics, is EXTREMELY depressing:

I wish that I could turn back time
cos now the guilt is all mine
can't live without
the trust of those you love
I know we can't forget the past
you can't forget love and pride
because of that, it's killing me inside

Anyway, if you are a fan of the show, DO NOT WATCH THE LAST TWO EPISODES, and buy the movie.

Seen half of one episode. Methinks it's not fun to watches.

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Evangelion was made like...6+years ago...and your getting into it NOW!!!

It was a mad series and one of the great anime to launch the genre.

another sweet one if your interested is a short series called ".hack/sign"

or something like that....its about a kid who plays a mmorpg that has taken the world by storm...and he goes into a coma or something and gets stuck in the game.

I'm opening up a shop that sells 13" rulers just so Fireborn stops complaining.

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

NGE is alright, but I sure hope for you you viewed it with the Japanese audio. All the voice actors for the English voice-over are talentless Southern hicks.

(Even if they werent they'd be terribly unlikely to outperform the original)

Also the last 2 eps are not BS, I thought it was an interesting ending for the series. And also throughout the series there are some hints about 25-26, hence Shinji's walkman. So (as usual) disregard Ulric's advice. smile
(One could however argue that a better viewing order would be episodes 1-24 followed by the movie 'End of Evangelion'. followed by the movie 'Death and Rebirth' followed by episodes 25-26. But ah well.)

And jesus3, Shinseiki Evangelion is actually 10-11 years old already ;-) This is 2006 remember? ;-)

Also I would like to ask 'what genre'? The whole psychology/messed up shit never really became a genre imho, and the Japanese 'big robo/mecha' genre dates back to the 70s with stuff such as Getter Robo and Gundam 0079. It is true however that NGE spawned a lot of foreign fanboys =P But Ranma 1/2 is one of the TRUE great anime classics.

.hack//SIGN is not exactly a short series, it's a standard length half-season (26 episodes) series. It is the most common number of episodes used, though 24 and 50 happen too.

As for .hack//SIGN I found it somewhat annoying since Tsukasa is such a whiny bratty angsty kid, but ah well... it is fun I guess. It has an excellent soundtrack, and when I made Zer watch it he made loads of jokes about it. (Someone dies... OHNOEZ MY DROPPILE!)

If you want to see a truly good anime, with an interesting storyline, in a fantasy-setting, and characters that develop quite a lot, I would like to suggest 'Juuni Kokuki' (also romanized as Juuni Kokki sometimes, and translates as 'The Twelve Kingdoms') which is about 45 episodes long (was supposed to be like 68, sadly they suddenly cut it short) and def. didn't bore me. First few episodes might seem a bit weird, but hang through and you'll be rewarded. ^^

Anyhow, back to the topic... if you wanna view NGE I would definitely recommend the a2ka (a2000a) encodes. (the movies are stored in .ogm with softsubs though, so you'll want a media player that can properly handle subtitles such as BSplayer, Zooplayer or MPC (Media Player Classic) (#a2000a is an irc channel I hang around a lot, and they made by far the best encodes/subs for NGE) Catch it on bittorrent... or if I know you and you give me a hug, I'll u/l to ya directly. ^^

PS. Another good one is KGNE (Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, translates roughly to The Eternity You Desire) which runs for 12 eps iirc and is more of a serious drama/soap than a regular anime. =P

Well, that's enough for me. Gimme a yell if you desire my services. ^^

Last time i checked....10 years Was 6+ years ago...... tongue

As far as downloading the shows...how about going out and buying the DVD box set....support those who provide to you....... lol
(i've got it and will burn a copy for only $19.95+p&H)

Alright Tsukasa is extremely annoying i will admit....but just the whole style of the show got me hooked.

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Why? Because the dubbing is shit and the subs mediocre. And I'm not one who has ANY desire to reward ADV for that. Moreover, ADV are asswads in general. (look what they sent a2ka, hehe)

Anyhow, the a2ka version is based on the 'remastered' version, and quite high quality, and includes the 'Director's Cut' versions for eps 21-24.

If you do really want to support the makers, support GAINAX directly by buying one of their new series. I don't think anyone but ADV will gain much from buying more English-language DVDs, though obviously I do not know the details of their licensing deal.

Anyhow, my excuse is they never really sold it on the Dutch market excepting stores that import form the US especially.

Anyhow Jesus3, that's okay. I liked dothack in general too. But do give Juuni Kokuki (a search for The Twelve Kingdoms is prolly more succesful) a try, I at least, found it pretty interesting... though it is more like reading a fantasy novel than like playing an MMORPG. ^^

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Actually, Crov, I didn't mean that I thought that the final two episodes were BS.  I merely meant that other people did, hence the death threats.

And I can't fing Death & Rebirth anywhere other than online.......I want them bad......

10

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Lol, I have seen DVDs of it lying around in some stores.. and it's not even officially sold here, has to be US imports or something =p

But anyway, don't worry, most of Death & Rebirth is just a recap (loads of flashbacks, connected) of the series.

If you do want to download (itll be better than the dvd anyway), I would suggest looking for the complete a2ka torrent (a torrent site with 'box' in it's name might have it, hehe... though there are several that fit that description, you should be able to find it ^^) and using a client such as Azureus to choose to only download Death & Rebirth. If you do, remember the player-issues for the .ogm container I mentioned earlier.

Anyhow, as for what you said about the last 2 episodes... don't do others the disfavour of being compared with the rare few idiots who got upset about it, let them see and decide for themselves. ^^

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex wasn't the best ever, but I didn't exactly dislike it either. (Come on, those tachikoma's were cute)

It made me read some stuff by Salinger. (The Catcher in the Rye and the Laughing Man to be precise, heh.)

They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life."

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

Crov used to watch a cartoon with a guy driving a Toyota Corolla downhill and drifting past his opponent. This was not just one episode. The guy must have drove his Corolla downhill a couple of hundred times. Eversince, Crov wants that Corolla although I'm not sure he realizes that it was a drawn car and it's actually not real.

You're a fucking fucktard, that's what I have to say. Ignore Ulrich watch the last two episodes if you have any brain at all and are capable of understanding the show. The last two episodes are some of the best ever in the series and they completely show the true attitudes of Asuka, Rei and Shinji. Hopefully you atleast watched the series in Japanese with subtitles. Fucker.

I disagree, I found the last two episodes to be incredibly disjointed and sort of a copout to a real ending that concluded the storyline.  The movie wrapped up all of those loose ends rather nicely compared to episode 25 and 26.  I still like episode 24 the most, because it was just so well done.  The last two episodes are good in their own sense for seeing how the characters perceive one another, but other than that it isn't really useful towards actually figuring out what the fuck Anno was trying to say with the whole series.

There is actually a toyota Corolla, yes. However the drawn version cannot be driven.

Re: The Longest "End of the World Scene" ever.......

That model (the AE86) is a rather popular one for drifting. (Ever played NFSU 2?)

And the one they got in the anime is based on the project that is described on the page I linked to. A group A engine that revs up to 11000 RPM in a lightweight, RWD car like that. ^^

But as it stands you'll end up paying for 5-10k for a 20-yr old rusty car that'll require loads of maintenance. So not worth it (I wouldnt ever drift anyway, heh), doesn't change that it's a sweet car though. =P
