Topic: EVE

Oh god, i have found a more addictive game than faldon... my life is going to end...

You guys should play EVE its massive, its actually organised, there is no such thing as lag, and its actually fun.

Take a look at it on www.eve-online.com

Re: EVE

I have played that game, it's interesting, especially the economics of it.

But it takes AGES to build up your skill. There is an absurdly strong correlation between how long you play the game and how good/rich you are on it because of how the skill and stat-system works. It's also a paid game, iirc its something like 15-20 bucks a month. First month registration is even more...

Also, saying there is no lag is bullshit unless they have fixed that abominable memory leak that has plagued that game for over a year. It forced me to ctrl+alt+del shutdown the game after playing for too long, ('too long' varying between 1 hour and several hours.)

You can look at my char if you want, it's named 'Ronnie Sorensen'. I haven't played it for months, but it has pretty decent stats and skills for a character that I played for only one and a half month.

Anyhow, unless they have suspended it, you can get a 14-day trial if you want to try it.

Personally I didn't like it THAT much in the end though. It kinda bothers me that you never see your character as a human except in your portrait.

Re: EVE

ive been playing it for 3-4 weeks and their is definatly no lag problem what so ever.

And yes you have a much bigger advantage if youve been playing longer bt thats the same for all games, take faldon for example.  You put a guy whos been playing for 3 weeks against a guy thats been playing for 3 months.

The guy whos been playing for 3 weeks doesnt have a shit show in hell to win.  But at least in eve you do have a shit show, i can kill guys that have been playing for up to a year if im lucky, it all depends what type of character you made weather it was gunnery orientated or not.

And beeing a part of a corporation you dont have to worry about getting rich, you are steadily given help and isk (which is money) and ive already got myself up to the stage where i am not worried about pirates etc.

Its a great game, you should give it another chance crovax.

Never underestimate the Pirates....they'll get you when you least expect it.

I'm opening up a shop that sells 13" rulers just so Fireborn stops complaining.

Re: EVE

My point is God. In Faldon you can become good and strong in a short time.

In Faldon the relation is more like, between play-time and character strength. In EVE it's just purely about how many IRL days your character has existed (whilst active, obviously an inactive unpaid for account can't start raising a new skill when the current one finishes.). Since existence time is the real scarce commodity for ANY character, not ISK.

And there's not really any amount of effort that *CAN* set that straight. If you want to fly a dreadnaught or titan or w/e you'll quite simply need to have played a couple of years to have the skills needed for one.

Anyhow, just saying I liked that aspect somewhat less and that I found it a bit impersonal cuz you never see the characters, but at the same time I def have to admit that it is interesting too. You can have big battles between groups of spaceships, that's pretty cool. =p

(Though I think it is WRONG that anyone can pilot battleships on their own. The bigger ships should require 2 or 3 ppl on board to man it, but for balance between ship classes and for more fun/realism. But then again, thatd prolly conflict with the whole pod-thing.)

Oh, and if you're saying NPC pirates dont worry you anymore Im sure you havent tried fighting em in 0.0 space before. =P They warpjam and shit, hehe.

Oh btw, I do have to say that the vastness of space in EVE is pretty realistic, that is certainly commendable. The proportion of the size of a planet to the distance between 2 planets is realistic, though its silly that you can only warp to within 15km and everyone has to set bookmarks and stuff for fast travelling.

As for giving it another chance, I would but its such a drain on my time. Also at least half of the game is spent travelling and it's not like WoW or Morrowind where you have nice sights to see, not at all.

Re: EVE

i suppose the travel time is quite annoying at times but if your into courier missions u can get mwd which make u go like 3 km/s and if u have alot of bookmarks u can warp like 5 jumps in a matter of like 10-15 minutes.

And when i was talking about pirates i wasnt talking about NPC pirates, more actual pvp pirates.  If you have a warp core stabilizer and half a brain u can usually get away unless ure up against a group of them or if they get u at the gate etc.

I usually stick around 0.1 0.2 or 0.3 im only in a brutix at the moment going for ferox need to learn the caldari skills.  Ive done some npc ratting in 0.0 but its usually to dangerous between the pvpers and the rats its almost certain death heh.

And you dont have to be active to get your skills up some skills take like a month to do, nothing hard about clicking a button once every week or month to get skills going and u dont even have to be online.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Those who played the game for years will have raised skill to the fullest extent all those years, and no amount of effort will let you close the gap, all you can do is resign yourself to playing for a few year to make the gap cmaller as naturally results from the increasing skill point/time investment requirements for the more advanced skills.

But just saying, you cant play this for a summer and get good at it, it's a long-term commitment if you want to play the game seriously. There are more interesting/rewarding/useful things one can achieve with long term commitment, so I'd rather not waste my future time now on the game, that's all Im saying...

But as I also said, it is fun and has it's interesting sides.

You're right about the gate btw, heh. I once dropped out of warp in a tristan near a jumpgate and was sniped from 200km in 2 shots =p by 2 ships. (Not sure what type, prolly battleships.)

I have a friend there btw who flies a Dreadnought, scary stuff. =p

Re: EVE

I'm ashamed right now really because I could have 10x the money I do if I hadn't been popped coming up from 0.0 with all my BPOs and BPCs including some ships and such. It was about January but either way I was doing great until then. Trying to clean things up and get a BS right now. And by the way ingame name: Caer Lakief
