Topic: game questions

I was going to put this directy into the suggestion forum, but I thought I'd start here in case I'm missing something.

I've only been playing a few days, and so far this game is exactly what I've been looking for (i.e. something like Legends of Kesmai... if anyone remembers that game).  I do have a few nit picks that still frustrate me.  I've found work arounds for some, but I think it would turn off some people to the game.  These changes might be easy to incorporate in the next version, or deeply buried in the code, so I understand if it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

Why are there no safe zones from monsters?  There are town guards everywhere, but all they ever do is kill me when I accidently click on them... what purpose do they serve?  Eye candy?  To make me walk around them?

Why is using the mouse so difficult?
  1.  Many times when I want to run away I'll just click somewhere that isn't near a monster.  If I click on a tree, I just sit there getting pounded until I realize why I'm not moving.  Couldn't it just move me towards the tree?
  2.  If there's a smallish creater next to a buddy of mine, I sometimes end up attacking him, especially if the enemy is still moving.  Is there a button or something I can hold to keep from attacking non-enemies?  The readme says something about tab-clicking, but I haven't figured out what that means, or what it actually does.
  3.  If I'm walking around in town by just holding the mouse button down in front of me (usually a quarter screen away or so) and a guard walks in front of me, sometimes I end up attacking him, then he kills me.  This is especially frustrating when you're expected to initiate dialogue with NPCs by clicking on them.  One of the first things I did was click on a guard to see what he would say, and got killed.
For these reasons I've given up on using the mouse unless required.  I'd much rather use the mouse as opposed to the keyboard though.

Why can't I see the stats for Kyra's equipment? I can for Karla!  When money is tight I'd rather buy the most bang for my buck, and be able to use the thing I buy.  Currently I just save up for it, and hope I don't get screwed too badly.

Anyway, that's what I have now.  Are these worth putting in the suggestion forum, or is there something I'm missing or forgetting to do?

Re: game questions

These are all known issues.  Currently there is only one person able to fix these issues.  His names is James Bellingers, or better known around here as Zer.  As of right now he is working on rewriting the entire game from scratch.  He is very far along his way and is working hard to deliver another classic game such as the one that are currently playing.  If you area patient and simply adapt to the control style of the game, I think you find your experience to be delightful and enjoyable.  If you ever need any help please do not hesitate to ask in the game.  Most of the high level players like new people and often give them gifts to get them started into the game.  Look the following people to be most likely to help you:

Yashua
GreenTea
~ T A M E ~
Bryce
Judy
Mitchel
~g33k~
L Jackass L
~-^.^-~
Book

So, if you need money or items just type "t [Name] Hey, I'm new to this game.  Could you please spare an item or some GP to get me started?"  Replace [Name] with one of the names listed above, or someone you see in the game.  Thank you for playing and have a great day.

The advice offered here is meant sarcastically. Sadly, the player-base in this game is nowhere near as good as the game itself.

Re: game questions

Guards are meant to protect you from players.

1) The mouse movement is horrible, get used to the keyboard. Sorry I can't give a better answer, but that is the way it is.

2) First, like I said, get used to using the keyboard. Second, yes, there is a button you can press. The button will not prevent from casting spells however. If you press "alt" it will cancel what you are doing. For example, click on a monster, then press alt. Or, press and hold alt, then click. Or, like you mentioned, if you press and hold tab, then click on something, it will walk to it, but not attack it. If it is a player, it will check the player's level when you get to them.

3) Tape your tab key down. lol

Krya is a special NPC, it does not use the standard screens, it must do it the way it does in order to allow the cheap prices and stop some bugs it was having with players. Sadly, there is not much I can do about this. You can use Shift + F4 to check the market and find an item with the same name to see the stats.

Re: game questions

Since these were common enough things, I figured they'd already been addressed, but I thought I'd try anyway.  Thanks for the replies!

The support staff is on the ball (I was using IE and had trouble registering on the forums).  I hate to admit it, but I thought this was something that would drag on into next week before I actually got a response.  My enthusiasm for the game has increased now that I know I can talk to people who are interested in helping.

Zer has made a good game!  It's exactly what I've been looking for for the past 5 yrs or so.  Now if I could just find more free time to play!

One thing I came across since posting (it's under the links section of the main page, but somehow I missed it the first time around),
http://faldon.visualcode.org/faldon/index.htm

That page has all the item stats, plus loads of other good stuff.  VERY nice!

Re: game questions

Melchior, that is my site. I am a GM on Faldon. My character name is Tareim. If you need anything you can contact me there. Also, if you visit that site, which is also known as http://www.faldon.org you can visit my forums. I frequent the Illusory forums, but am on mine even more.

Re: game questions

Indeed, the willingness of players to assist new players has been greatly exaggerated.

In game: Mouse. (Period included.)

If I'm on, I'll do my best to help. I'm not a GM, but not (necessarily) an asshole either.

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Re: game questions

My in-game name is Somru, and if I'm on I try to help new guys as well as I can. I can't provide much in the way of money or items (except seeds, I got a bunch of those), but usually I can help you find a place to train based on your level. I can even go there with you and help you kill some monsters if you need it. I also help a lot of people with farming and such.

Zerodyme is a ghost. You don't know he's there until he's cut you. As your hands fall off and your torso splits, the last thing you'll think is, "Oh, fuck! Zerodyme was here!"

I promise candy to children from Ivory Coast, lure them to a cocoa plantation, and sell them.

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.
