Wow... what kind of show are the Gms running these days? I would have never banned or muted someone for insulting me when I was a Gm.

Are you still a GM?
I don't think so. To be honest, I don't know. When I was told by a player that I had my Gm removed, I never logged on to check if it was true. (It seemed plausible because another Gm who I disagreed with on many levels had been pushing for it for a while.)
I was always of the opinion that it was the Gm's job to stop people from cheating, maintain civility in the chat (i.e. moderating spam, racism, etc), and create new and interesting content for the players while maintaining balance.
Unfortunately, some of the other Gms saw things a little differently.
Regardless, you have a completely valid argument. Gms do not have the right to ban just because you trash talk them. It causes more problems than it resolves, and if a Gm cannot emotionally detach themselves from the inherent verbal abuse that comes with the job, then they should not weild that power at all.
To be fair, Mumblee, I don't think that you have been told the full story. The most important thing to remember is that players will withhold information to make their case. This round of insults was just the tip of the iceberg. However, I don't know the entire story of the ban, either... Simply reminding you of how Faldon is.
While you're totally right, narcosis, this specific scenario has been a recurring theme for as long as I can remember so I'm inclined to accept it as truth. There were always Gms who acted like spoiled aristrocrats, and could think of no greater crime against the game than for a player to insult a Gm.
It was always interesting to see the lies people would create when I banned them for macroing and such, though. That's why I always took a screenshot first.
Not to toot my own horn here or anything, but being a good Gm isn't terribly difficult. Roll with the constant verbal assaults and it takes the fun out of it for the harassers, and find creative ways to punish people for cheating, that's all.
I can agree with you--that's a recurring theme among GMs. However, I still think that you lack the perspective of the whole relationship between Julie and Judy. There has been a long-running issue between them. There is a point at which you have to take control of the situation and establish authority. I think that you, as an ex-GM, can understand that. It seems Julie first took control by muting him. If that didn't work, what was she to do? Booting him is an option. However, such repercussions hadn't stopped the abuse previously and I feel that it may have been justified to end it as she did. Inferring that she is a "spoiled aristocrat" for simply taking control is--I feel--premature.
I disagree that you have to establish an authoritative relationship with the players, because as a Gm you aren't "better" than the players. You're there to serve them. A player isn't disrupting the game or breaking the ToS any more by insulting a Gm than they would be by insulting another player, arguably less so.
Gms putting themselves on a pedestal and removing themselves from the community only serves to sow the seeds of distrust in the players, which in turn makes them less capable of doing their job.
A Gm's authority stems from the rules, not from power-tripping and controlling random players.
