Topic: Server downtime

Folks have been wondering why the server keeps crashing. Well, here's what's going on.
The current server is rather old, and as of late some files on its hard drive have, when I try to back them up, given "blah blah corrupt or damaged". So, there are clearly some parts of the hard drive that just aren't working properly.
When the server tries to open one of those files, it crashes.

Anyway, to get it up this most recent time, I made a copy instead of just chkdsk'ing, so hopefully that will get the flags and mail and whatnot off of the corrupt sectors. We'll see. In the mean time, I've ordered replacement parts for a server, built it, and am presently setting it up. It's a LGA 1156 Xeon (2.53GHz), 8GB RAM, 750GB Western Digitals in RAID1, blah blah. Point is, the current server's hard drive is going bad, so I'm making a replacement. I hope you'll bear with me in the mean time.

On that note, if anyone here has tried using an Intel 82574L network card with Linux and had stability problems, let me know. It seems to have a nasty habit of randomly losing connectivity, which won't do for a server. If I can fix this that would accelerate things, as otherwise I'm going to end up having to order a riser card (server's 1U) and some other NIC, which will take a few extra days. So, let me know if you have run into that before.

As for C time, I'll be crediting a bunch once I have the replacement up and running, because, really, this crashing has been  ridiculous.
