stop brown nosing rob
it makes me happy and satisfied.. i dun wanne stop
What Ignite/Rastlin do can be considered harrassment which is not allowed (not towards GMs and players) so IP bans for repeat offenders is nothing too extreme as its only for a few hours.
i think it is perfectly acceptable for julie to ban people for harrassing her, ignite is only complaining cuz he is the 1 who got banned, if it was someone else he wouldnt of cared
for one the terms "AHAHAHAHA" and "OMG I'M ROLLING" are offensive or anything close to harrassment
and for two... rick u were not there and sykes is a GM kiss ass so he's always gonna take the GM's side. like i said... rastlin i understand why she got her panties in a knot... ignite... no fucking way.. he did not say one harrassing or offensive thing... she was raging and took it out on both of them.
im not a gm kiss ass lol, i wasnt online at the time but ignite prolly deserved it as he is offensive all the time. how long was he banned for?

All I said was hahaha and I got banned. Alumet is worthless, like her shitty husband, adligkrieger.

GM's should not be able to boot or ip ban (especially a paying player) for stating their own opinions about said GM... If julie doesn't like what ppl say she can simply ignore them. .. racial slurs get muted that's well known and understandable... no one should get banned or kicked for that shit... fact of the matter, julie kicked and ip banned rastlin and ignite cause she did not like what rastlin was saying to her directly and iggy was laughing. It became personal... and for someone who dosen't hide the fact that they do not care about the game should for one not be a GM and two they shouldn't even care what ppl think or say about them. Be a professional, your not a player anymore u shouldn't be acting like one.
Well you would gen banned in any other game in existence for being disrespectful to GMs. In fact, if you are openly harassing anyone in most MMOs you will receive a ban. That said, Julie banning someone for harassment is well within the boundaries of professionalism and certainly within the ToS that everyone agrees to when signing up to play.

While this is a bit questionable when compared to things I've seen in other games, I think the blame can but put more on the system in general than any GM. The fact that Zer has decided to increase the level of chat moderation in the game is a good thing. However, with this increased level of GM interaction, there perhaps should be a more specific set of guidelines laid out for GMs to follow. Most games have extremely specific protocols that cover nearly every situation. While I understand that this game's development is and has always been a hobby, it might not be a bad thing to try to come up with even more guidelines for a GM/Mod and chat mod to follow so there's more consistency down the line as far as the actions that are taken.
A lot of these problems seem to stem from the amount of interaction between the GMs and the player base. In most games, the GMs have very little interaction with the players and are mostly hidden when online. Since the GMs here aren't being paid and they are mostly former players, it probably wouldn't be fair to them to have to take it to the extreme that most games do, however, perhaps a GM petition option in-game might help since it seems like situations like this usually escalate from players requesting something in broadcast and the GM being unable to comply. *shrug*
I disagree, penny. While harassing other players tends to get you in trouble in other games, Gms are not "other players", and dealing with angry customers tends to be part of the job. This is true of any support job, whether it be tech support at a big company, or handling product returns at Walmart.
The idea that Gms are above other players or have certain entitlements has historically been a huge detriment to Faldon, IMO.
You a replubican?
No, I'm a liberal-leaning independent. I'm assuming you're latching onto "entitlement" in my post, as that's a word that has been thrown around in Republican talking points lately. Fundamental well being should be an unalienable right of all Americans, as it is for every other fully industrialized nation in the world. The fact that our current system is so backwards is shameful.
I am a registered republican and I hate retards.

Yes but there's a difference between dealing with an angry customer and the type of abuse that is typical in this game. For example, if you go into a public place and start cursing out an employee and make a scene, you will be asked to leave or have the authorities called. Yes, it is the employee's responsibility to try to end the dispute in a civil manner, but we both know that even without witnessing what happened, this most likely was not the was not a simple customer dispute by rather flagrant personal abuse in the public channel since this tends to be the norm. Try walking into Walmart and calling the greeter a Dickface over and over and see how long they allow your patronage. This type of stuff isn't just insulting on a personal level, it disrupts the entire player population.
Expressing dissatisfaction with a product is acceptable in any game. Cursing out a GM or moderator in public for enjoyment is not. I can assure you that this was the case in Ultima Online and it's still the case with Warcraft or Age of Conan.
Like I said before, the primary reason that these things go this far is because of the level of interaction with the GMs and the players and the fact that GMs are former players. The only way to solve this, in my opinion, is to either limit the amount of GM interaction with the players or make the players to make certain concessions(such as not being rude) in order to maintain the level of GM involvement. Personally, I would choose the second one since treating everyone with some sort of civility seems like less of a loss than losing the level of GM interactivity that makes this game unique.
Was a ban going too far? *shrug* I don't know the guidelines that GMs have to follow. Not to sound like a broken record, but a more specific set of standardized guidelines for GMs and Mods might be a step in the right direction.
Penny it wouldn't be half as bad if GM's would Enforce the rules, Instead they just get angry one day and Ban people. If I remember correctly Julie always took abuse when I played. Never did jack about it. It's nothing againest her I don't know what happened and its none of my business. But when you don't say anything about it. and you Randomly jump up and decide its enough I think theres a problem with that. Enforce the rules from the start and the issue wouldn't have grown. And again I don't know the situation but that's my opinion
~Not againest any GM's just stating my opinion
I agree that a set of guidelines for how Gms act would be useful. In fact, it was this very concept, and the idea that I was trying to set precedent with it, that was largely responsible for Lothar's campaign to get me deGmed.
I disagree, however, that those are our only two options. There's always option 3: Convince the Gms to just ignore the abuse. I can tell you from experience as a Mod and as a Gm that it works wonders. Sticks and stones...
If players know that their abuse is just being ignored, and they know that you are always treating everyone the same way, they will stop doing it.
It just occured to me how far we've strayed from the original point, which was that a Gm got mad and banned a guy for laughing at her.
