Topic: New weapon class: staff/ranged mage

Would it be a lot of effort to add a new type of weapon class?

Left-click for all mage related weapons results in a feeble poke with a staff that does next to no damage. The idea is to add a new weapon class which basically acts similar to a bow for warriors, but instead of arrows it could initiate some magic effect (cast a spell, trigger a script). So you wouldn't use a staff for physical combat in any way anymore, it would act as a ranged weapon for magic. The attack rating for the weapon would control how fast the magic effect can be triggered.

Could make things like staff of flames pretty useful by letting it trigger a bunch of fireballs on left click. Maybe have crystal dagger fire a bunch of lightning at a target etc.

This would add a new dimension to mages, and create a start for making them more useful.

I think this idea is very good. Staffs would make a lot more sense.

If it's not too complicated, this would be nice.

Higher level mages don't have the same DPS compared to warrior. Maybe part of this, or an adjacent change to consider is making magic dmg scale up with intelligence stat, like melee weapon scales with strength?

If this is possible, we could also look at 1 handed wands. I imagine the animation could just play the attack frames for staff/one handed instead of the spell casting frames.

More ideas: have limited uses with "charging" the staff/wand with the enchantment skill? That skill is very under utilized
