Topic: Market Suggestions

1. When selling items, add a warning that the price will drop over time. When I was new I listed lost artifacts on the market without knowing the price would drop.

2. Add a feature to remove a listed item (without buying it back), because if I list an item that costs more gold than what I have I'm not able to get it out.

Re: Market Suggestions

Good suggestions.
There is one issue with #2 though. We would need to prevent people using the market as extra inventory space. "Listing fee" that you lose, or...? Thoughts?

Re: Market Suggestions

For what it's worth, Myth of Empires has pretty solid marketplace mechanics. They use some rules that promote good function, and reduce abuse/lingering spam/ other shenanigans.

Some of the policies:

  • Limited number of listed items for sale at one time.

  • Limited listing time duration.

  • Flat listing fee paid when you list the item. It's a percentage based.

  • Limited "viewing only" phase. Once the item is listed, it cannot be immediately removed or purchased until the cool down expires. This circumvents exploits of transporting items over far distances, or to other parties.

  • You can de-list your items (after the cool down), but the list fee is still consumed.

Make the fee based on a % of initial listing, make the listing fee nonrefundable.

This cures a few problems.

People won't list things for crazy numbers that it will never sell at.
People won't be able to use it as extra bank/inv space.
People will list things at fair prices they think it will actually sell at.
It makes a lot more sense than the arbitrary listing cost based on item, as the code has no way to tell what actual market price is.

Out of retirement... for now.
