It's not the format of a sentence that dictates the author's intelligence, but rather the content. This is why most great authors aren't editors and most great editors aren't authors.
For future reference, you might want to go easy on the semicolons as most people like to read sentences with pauses in them. I generally give my students one guideline when using a semicolon: "If it doesn't sound right when you read it aloud, then you're doing it wrong.".
