I'm not saying that there aren't many bands that sound "grunge" and continue to be inspired by the music, but it isn't grunge.
Just like how The Darkness sounds like Queen, but they aren't "classic rock".
I'm not sure I've ever heard that concept explained so succinctly before. Well done.
oh yeah, one more thing xttz, it doesn't look good when you make a statement and it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about.......
There's a difference though. Matt Patton sucks and Serj Tankian rules.
it's MIKE patton, clown
Ever heard of this thing called a 'mistake'?
Well, it shows you aren't familiar with Mike Patton. So your opinion on who is "better" doesn't really mean much. You see? I mean, you said he sucks, but you don't know his name.
I'm not sure I've ever heard that concept explained so succinctly before. Well done.
Thank you kindly.
I mean, the music is dead. No more great grunge is being made. The whole scene is far over. The movement has past. Seattle is on to other things- in underground music.
Thats a matter of opinion my friend, grunge isn't really getting into the charts but is still popular amongst a large amount of people in Britain.
People adore both old grunge and new Grunge being made E.g Deja Entendu (the latest album by brand new released in feb).
However i do admit most Grunge bands never really tend to get off the ground or rather haven't been doing lately. No, I don't think you really understand. Grunge was a scene, a seattle music scene, and that scene is over.

The scene died 10 years ago, when Kurt was murdered. Most of the grunge bands split after that (coincidence msot likely). Bands like Mudhoney and Pearl Jam contiue to make music (thank god) but the scene is no longer alive. The grunge scene is dead. The movement is dead. The music is timeless.
Look look look
I know what your trying to say, ive understood from the start, ofcourse you are right. I'm just holding onto the fact that its alive in a small way in Britain. So stop trying to take that away from me mold you err you meanie copter!
ofcourse you are right
Well, that's all that matters.
but i still stand by this point.
Just because the main movement is over and to many the genre is therefore dead. A new movement, almost seperate in its own right can still exhist, it may have little to do with the original scene and may be on a far smaller scale, but it exhists none the less.
Therefore in a way it is still alive.
You are right about the original Grunge been over though. Grunge is dead for the masses but alive for those who still seek it out. There are new and 'original' grunge bands and there will continue to be, therefore Grunge is alive, its just in a state of... deprivation?
grunge is a classic example of the media giving a label to music that really never needed one. scenes are worthless to me....just an excuse for people to feel important...most music "scenes" should be called fashion scenes in my opinion....
I disagree. A scene can mean a lot. The Grunge scenen was well alive before the media latched onto it, and mad eit something it never was. I think that killed it. Nobody liked the fame, to the extent it got. After major fashion designers started making flannel shirts it died. That was the end.
It really represented the feeling, the movement, of everyone living here, and who were part of it.
I think to say scenes are stupid, is like saying conforming is stupid. It has become nothing shy of cliche to me.
As for Roach, Grunge is dead. I nkow there are grunge-inspired bands out there, but that isn't grunge. See analogy above fr example. But I don't think you really understand, though I am well aware that you think you do.
Okay, we are seriously going in circles here. I do understand.
All i'm saying is
1) There was Grunge scene one (original) now dead
2) Now theres Grunge scene two. A undeveloped but yet hugely popular scene climbing its way through Britain. It isn't the same as Grunge scene one, infact, i'm not even sure it should be called Grunge, as it seemingly has its own style. All i'm saying is there is a seperate scene in Britain, you might say Grunge is dead but i believe in it's own way that its very much alive.
If you don't agree with that, i guess we have to agree to disagree

someday , when you're older.....it will make sense and you will know i'm right.....dividing music up into social groups just causes closed mindedness in the end....

In a lot of cases, it doesn't make sense. I know that. For grunge is did.
You gotta understand that like every one of those bands in Seattle at the time were part of something like a "big club". The hung out together, partied together, and swapped band members semi-frequently. It was a giant social scene. That is what it was.
The Rabbit Joint!
good charlotte, the ataris and green day
Damn, I must be in the sticks. I never heard of most of these bands. I heard some Siagon Kick though Scott was a big fan, they are pretty good. So is bootsauce for that matter.
Same here... half of these songs I've never heard of!
Under-Rated Bands:
Bloodhound Gang, Lollipop Lust Kill, KMFDM, Pissing Razors, Acid Bath, Type O Negative...
There are more... but I don't feel like thinking.
lol nacr, ever listen to any my life with the thrill kill cult?
good charlotte, the ataris and green day

one of the dudes from good charlotte....the guy with the makeup...showed up at this show i was at a few months ago.....it was great, everyone told him he wasn't welcome there and shoulded random obsenities at him...
Let's see underrated...
Definitely:
Triumph
The Constantines
And of course: The Swingle Singers
Okkervil River is very underrated, so is Polaris/Miracle Legion. Oh god though, there are so many underrated bands, bands that deserve to famous, instead of unheard of.
lol nacr, ever listen to any my life with the thrill kill cult?
Nope. I suppose I shall now.

I agree about Triumph.
I also think Beulah is very underrated. Come to think of it, the whole Elephant 6 Collective is underrated; Apples In Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Temor Control etc.
Do any of you guys like Methods of Mayhem?
Belle & Sebastian are pretty underrated.
